After the presentation of Sebastien Michelland on "3D rendering on a 2D screen: but how ?", the next session of "What the Cup ?!", will next Friday (20/06 at 16:00 P.M.) and will be untitled: "IEEE 754 bit hacking : The fast inverse square root". In this talk, I will speak about the fast inverse square root, a weird function found in the Quake 3 Arena game engine (1999).

This (old) function can be viewed as an approximate computing approach for floating-point number, a new paradigm for energy-efficient and high-performance (software and/or hardware) implementations.
