Biographies

Filippo Costa (S’07–M’11–SM’19) received the M.Sc. degree in telecommunication engineering and the Ph.D. degree in applied electromagnetism from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 2006 and 2010, respectively. In 2009, he was a Visiting Researcher with the Department of Radio Science and Engineering, Aalto University, Espoo, Finland. From 2015 to 2017, he was a Short-Term Visiting Researcher with the Grenoble Institute of Technology, Valance, France, and University Rovira I Virgili, Tarragona, Spain. He is currently with the University of Pisa. His current research interests include metamaterials, metasurfaces, antennas, and radio frequency identification. He was selected among the outstanding reviewers of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION (2015-2021) and the IEEE ANTENNAS AND WIRELESS PROPAGATION LETTERS (2017,2018). He was recipient of the Young Scientist Award of the URSI International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory, URSI General Assembly and URSI AT-RASC in 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively. Dr. Costa serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION, IEEE ANTENNAS AND WIRELESS PROPAGATION LETTERS, IEEE SENSORS LETTERS, Sensors and Electronics.

David Girbau (M’04–SM’13) was awarded a BSc in Telecommunication Engineering, a MSc in Electronics Engineering, and a doctorate in Telecommunication by Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain, in 1998, 2002 and 2006, respectively. From February 2001 to September 2007 he was a Research Assistant at UPC. From September 2005 to September 2007 he was a part-time Assistant Professor at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). Since October 2007 he has been a full-time professor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona, Spain. He is currently serving as coordinator of the degree of Telecommunication Systems and Services Engineering and the double degree between Telecommunication Systems and Services Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. His research interests include microwave devices and systems, with an emphasis on UWB, RFIDs, RF-MEMS and wireless sensors.
