Juan Vasconcelos Lopes, new CTSYS doctorant

Can you introduce yourself briefly?

I am Juan, a Brazilian coming from the north of the country (Belem-PA) to complete my thesis in the field of electrical protocol security. I love coffee, POSIX environments and music.

What is your background (education, experience…)?

I obtained my engineering degree at ESISAR in 2024, as part of a joint degree program with my home university (UFPA – Federal University of Pará). I come from an electrical engineering education completed in Brazil, and a software engineering and embedded systems education completed at ESISAR.

Can you explain briefly your thesis topic?

My research topic focuses on the security of communication between autonomous consumption systems as more intelligence is being integrated into the electrical grid. Trustworthy distribution and billing without the need for an intermediary supplier such as EDF can be achieved through this research. I am confident that my understanding of the subject will evolve in the years to come.

What skills can you share?

I have already served as a TI manager of a set of services in the LASSE laboratory, whose work can be found on lasseufpa.org or lasse.ufpa.br, so network management, Linux system management, and some electronics. Additionally, software development and all that comes with it (tools, version control, etc.).
