Welcome to Issam Lahrech, the new PhD student in the CTSYS team since October, 1rst, 2026.
His office is on the 1rst floor of building D, room D110.
Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
My name is Issam, I am 23 years old, and I am joining LCIS as a PhD student. I will be conducting my PhD research in the field of embedded systems security, with a particular interest in protecting hardware architectures against fault injection attacks.
What is your background (education, experience, etc.)?
I have an Engineering degree in Information and Communication Systems from ENSA El Jadida in Morocco, as well as a Master’s degree in Smart Sensors and Electronic Systems from the University of Nantes, obtained as part of a dual-degree program. My academic background has allowed me to develop strong foundations in system design, programming, and vulnerability analysis.
Can you briefly explain your PhD topic?
My PhD research focuses on protecting a 32-bit RISC-V processor core against physical fault injection attacks. The objective is to study how disturbances, such as clock glitches or voltage variations, can be exploited to induce errors in the processor, and then to develop a configurable hardware and software countermeasure while minimizing its impact on performance, power consumption, and hardware resources.
What skills can you share?
I am particularly passionate about cybersecurity and have already had the opportunity to conduct research in this field. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with others, while also exchanging ideas and learning new things from everyone.
Where can people find you? How can they contact you?
My office is located in Building D, on the first floor, room D110. I can also be reached by email at: issam.lahrech
lcis.grenoble-inp.fr (issam[dot]lahrech[at]lcis[dot]grenoble-inp[dot]fr).
Would you like to share anything else (an experience, a passion, something personal, etc.)?
Outside of research, I am passionate about photography and sports. These are two activities that I particularly enjoy, as they allow me to take a break from work, clear my mind, and discover new things.
