Welcome to Germain Eguina, who joined the CTSYS team as a new PhD student in February 2026.
He is supervised by Vincent Beroulle, Louis Morge-Rollet, and Valentin Egloff.
His office is located in Building D, first floor, room D110.
Could you introduce yourself in a few words?
My name is Germain Eguina, and I am originally from the Central African Republic. During my PhD, I will be working on the robustness of embedded AI modules.
Could you tell us about your background (education, experience, etc.)?
I completed all of my higher education in France. I first earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at the University of Strasbourg through the CMI program. Wanting to combine two of my main interests—complex systems and aeronautics—I then joined ENSPIMA at Bordeaux INP, where I specialized in avionics and embedded systems.
Throughout my studies, I had the opportunity to work in research, notably at the iCube Laboratory in Strasbourg and at NAASC, the New Aquitaine University Space Center. I also gained industrial experience, particularly at Airbus in Toulouse.
These various experiences allowed me to explore a wide range of topics, from software engineering and embedded development to predictive maintenance.
Could you briefly explain your PhD topic?
As part of my PhD, I will be working on methods for evaluating and strengthening embedded AI modules to ensure their safety and security in critical systems.
This work includes identifying, modeling, and reproducing representative disturbances. It also involves assessing their impact on system performance. Finally, hardening techniques will be proposed at the model, system, and training-process levels.
What skills can you share with your colleagues?
I can help if you have questions about embedded systems development, as well as software development in general.
I also enjoy helping people think through problems and find solutions. So, if you need someone to replace your rubber duck (for those who get the reference), feel free to ask!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
For entertainment, I really enjoy watching anime (and I think we can all agree that Hunter × Hunter is a masterpiece), and I also play a few video games.
I also enjoy reading, especially crime thrillers, and I'm a big astronomy enthusiast.
More generally, I'm very curious about a wide range of cultural and scientific topics, so don't hesitate to share your experiences with me!
